SkyPoint Communications is a full service Internet Service Provider.

Expanding the Software You Have Downloaded

The software you have just downloaded is not ready for use because it had been compacted to save download time. You will need to move the files around on your system and expand them.

  • 1.Open the "Main Group" window. In the Windows Program Manager, click on the "Main Group" window to open it.
  • 2.Run "File Manager". Double-click on the "File Manager" icon.
  • 3.Open the "Search" window. Click on the "File" menu item at the top of your screen. Click on the "Search" option in the "File" menu.
  • 4.Search for the SkyPoint Internet Explorer file.
    • a.Enter the file name. In the "Search For" box, type iew31.exe.
    • b.Enter the directory to search from. In the "Start From" box, type c:\.
    • c.Select "Search All Subdirectories". Click on the small box next to "Search All Subdirectories" so that it shows an "x".
    • d.Select "OK". Click on the "OK" button in the upper right corner of the window.

    Another window will pop up showing all files called "iew31.exe."

  • 5.Move the "iew31.exe" file. NOTE: this step is to be used ONLY if the "iew31.exe" file is NOT in the c:\ directory.
    • a.Select the "iew31.exe" file. Click on the "iew31.exe" file so that is is highlighted.
    • b.Open the "Move" window. Click on the "File" menu item at the top of your screen. Click on the "Move" option in the "File" menu. A window will appear.
    • c.Enter the directory to move the "iew31.exe" file into. In the "To" box, type c:\.
    • d.Select "OK". Click on the "OK" button in the upper right corner of the window.
  • 6.Exit the File Manager. Click on the "File" menu item at the top of your screen. Click on the "Exit" option in the "File" menu.
  • 7.Run "c:\iew31.exe".
    • a.Select the "Run" option. Double-click on the "File" menu item at the top of your screen. Select the "Run" option in the pulldown menu. A window will appear.
    • b.Enter "c:\iew31.exe". In the "Command Line" box, type c:\iew31.exe and press enter. A black and white DOS screen will appear.
    • c.Enter "Yes" if asked whether to overwrite files. If you have any Internet Explorer files loaded in this directory, the installer will see them and ask if it should overwrite these old files. Type Yes.
  • 8.Turn on your modem. Make sure that the modem is plugged in to the phone jack. If you have an external modem, make sure that it is plugged in to your computer, and that it is on.
  • 9.Run "c:\setup.exe".
    • a.Select the "Run" option. Double-click on the "File" menu item at the top of your screen. Select the "Run" option in the pulldown menu. A window will appear.
    • b.Enter "c:\setup.exe". In the "Command Line" box, type c:\setup.exe and press enter.
  • 10.Accept the license terms. A window containing the software license will appear. Read the terms and click the "I Accept" button.
  • 11.Click the "OK" button in the Welcome Window. Another window will appear telling you that the installer is searching for previously installed Internet Explorer components on your hard drive.
    • a.Click "OK" if components are found.
  • 12.Select complete installation. A window will appear giving you the option to install the complete or custom version of the package. Click the "Complete" button.
  • 13.Click "Continue" in the Program Group window. The installer will show you a window with various program groups in which the software may be installed. The correct one has already been chosen, so click "Continue." Another window will pop up, telling you that the installer is checking for disk space. This may take several minutes, so please be patient.
  • 14.Follow the directions given by the software. The installer will direct you to change disks in order to install the software. Each time you change a disk, you will need to click the "OK" button on the window. Follow these instructions until installation is complete and you see an "Install New Modem" window.
  • 15.Turn your modem on. When you see the modem installation window, make sure your modem is on and connected correctly before continuing!
  • 16.Click the "Next" button. The installer will begin detecting your modem. This may take several minutes.
  • 17.Click the "Next" button. Accept the installer's modem information.
  • 18.Click the "Finish" button. You will be asked if you want to restart.
  • 19.Restart the computer. Click on the "Yes" button to restart. If your machine does not fully reboot in the next minute or so, turn off your computer, wait 10 seconds, and then turn it back on again.
  • 20.Open the Microsoft Internet Explorer program group. In your Windows Program Manager, double-click on the "Microsoft Internet Explorer" icon to open the Program group.
  • 21.Double-click the "Get on the Internet" icon. A full-sized window will open.
  • 22.Click the "Install" button. Another window showing a list of program groups will appear.
  • 23.Click the "OK" button. The software is already set to install the dialer in the correct program group. A new window will open, telling you to click on the Internet Explorer icon.
  • 24.Click "OK."
  • 25.Double-click on the Internet Explorer Icon. A new window will appear asking you for your account information.
  • 26.Enter the requested information. In the Phone Number box, do not change any information unless your telephone requires you to dial 9 before calling out (enter a 9,, before the telephone number listed) or you need to turn off call waiting (enter the appropriate string to turn off call waiting before the number listed).
  • 27.Click "Connect". You will now be able to connect to the Internet.
