Very near the end of the Gunflint Trail in the Boundary waters is this very cozy and charming lodge which is as easily accessible by canoe via Seagull Lake as it is by car from the Gunflint. Soup and Sandwiches are served for lunch, and the quality is very high. They have dinner specials as well, and these are elegant. Desserts here are wonderful. Reservations are recommended for dinner. $7.00 per plate for lunch and $15.00 per plate for dinner is a bargain for this level of elegance in the wilderness. If you are ending your BWCA voyage at trail's end, this place is a no miss! | |

Nature's Hideaway is a charming restaurant that serves everything from ribs to goulash in a comfortable northwoods themed environment. Their Au Gratin potatoes, offered as a side with most dishes, is not to be missed. Cost is 10 to 15 dollars a plate. It's a great place to stop after a day's canoeing or hiking at Lake Maria state park. | |

If you are visiting the western region of the Boundary Waters, chances are you drove through Ely to reach your entry point. And if you drove through Ely, you drove by the Chocolate Moose. After you've spent a week or so carrying a canoe around on your head. eating dried food with names like Turkey Tetrachloride and Chicken Polymerase, be sure to stop by The Chocolate Moose for a fine dining experience in a casual atmosphere. They serve both lunch and dinner. Their Polenta/Goat Cheese/Roasted Garlic appetizer qualifies them for the Order of the Golden Bulb, and their beef tenderloin is a delight. If you stop for lunch, be sure to try their Portobello sandwich. Prices are 5 to 10 dollars a plate for lunch, 12 to 20 dollars a plate for dinner. And if they offer their signature dessert, the Chocolate Moose Cake, don't pass it up. | |

The Dock Cafe is a dining spot favored by yachtsmen on the Saint Croix River. There are strip-built canoes and rowing shells hanging from the ceiling and a stunning view of the river. Don't miss the Gravlax appetizer; this traditional Scandinavian cured salmon is served with hard boiled egg, rye bread and a rich caper sauce. Entrees are beautifully presented and their wine list includes many local offerings. After a full meal, you will want a light dessert, so go with one of their sorbets. | |

A great place to stop for a bite on your way to or from Ely from the Twin Cities. Gordy's is an old fashioned roadside hamburger stand. They have a nice selection of burgers and sides include fries, rings, and fried mushrooms. They also sell shakes and sundaes. | |
