Get Map
With four branches in the Twin Cities metro area, the Timber Lodge Steakhouse is ideal for a quiet evening of good food in a quiet environment. It's rustic decor with a candle lantern at each table make it wonderful for a romantic evening out; its strong Minnesota themes make it an excellent choice for entertaining guests from out of town. The food is generous and good, featuring thick steaks, long racks of ribs, a variety of seafood and chicken.

Rudolph's Bar-B-Que
(612) 871-8969
1933 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN
When one walks into a rib-joint, one does not expect plush Art-Deco decor, but one gets not only that at Rudolph's, but also the best cole slaw I have tasted. Their Pork Spareribs are not to be missed, done up sweet and smoky and served with fries and toast. Portions are generous enough to share and we split a full slab of ribs and a slice of cheesecake. Expect to pay $15.00 to 20.00 a plate.

The Times Cafe
(612) 333-2762
1036 Nicollett Mall., Minneapolis, MN
The sign boasts "Fondue for Two" and indeed they deliver, offering a fondue of Gruyere and Swiss with items to dip. But don't overlook their other menu items: their French Onion soup almost qualifies as a meal in itself, with Four pieces of french bread in it and Fontina melted on top. That together with an appetizer should leave even the most robust of eaters satisfied. The atmosphere is full of lots of warm woods with marble topped tables. Prices are $7.00 to $12.00 per plate.

The New Uptown Diner
(612) 824-2211
3008 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, MN
You will find breakfast here. You will find it in large quantities. The atmosphere is warm and friendly with lots of light woods and a view of the kitchen. The food is rib-sticking and of very high quality. If there is a wait, you will be offered coffee and the opportunity to peruse a newspaper. Prices range from $5.00 to 10.00 per plate.

Key's Cafe on Nicollet
(612) 339-6399
1007 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN
Key's Cafe on Nicollet is just one of the many Key's restaurants in the twin cities. It offers a good old fashioned diner atmosphere, serves breakfast all day, and has an absolute monster of a club sandwich served on their home made bread. A selection of pastries is also available. Prices range from $5.00 to $10.00 per plate.

Mayslack's Polka Lounge
(612) 789-9862
1428 4th St NE, Minneapolis, MN
As you sit down in this neighborhood bar, you are faced with a placemat extolling the virtues of garlic as T-shirts around you proclaim that "Nobody beats Mayslack's meat." And right they are, because Mayslack's specialty is a roast beef sandwich served au jous. The beef is marinated and braised in a garlic broth so subtle that you barely know it's there while you eat, but you can feel it with you the rest of the day. And if that's not enough, there is ample horseradish as well. Oh - and use silverware for this one: the meat is so juicy and piled so high that eating as a sandwich is impossible. At $5.00 to $8.00 a plate, this is a deal!
