Arthur was born in Blakeley, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, 22 February 1888.

In 1900, he lived in Blakely with his parents, and worked in the coal mines as a gate tender.

Arthur served in the U. S. Army, Troop E, 3rd Cavalry Regiment as a private in the Philippines, 1905 - 1908, after the Philippine Insurrection. See his discharge papers here and here.

In 1909 Arthur was appointed Sergeant in Company B of the 13th Regiment of Infantry in the Pennsylvania National Guard.

In 1910, he lived in Blakely on First Street with his mother and sisters Elizabeth and Letitia. It appears he was a surveyor from the census form.

He was first married to Ruth Anna Gleason in 1910, who was born in February 1892 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and died 2 November 1918 in Pennsylvania during the flu epidemic. She is buried with Arthur in Dunmore Cemetery.

In 1920, he lived in Dickson with his mother, was an engineer in a coal mine.

Arthur married second to Lydia Lena Probst in 1922, who was born on 24 August 1896 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and died 11 May 1983 in Vallejo, California. She completed a teaching degree at West Chester College in Pennsylvania and taught school in Scranton.

In 1930, he lived in Carbondale with his family and in-laws, and was a fireman for a steam railroad.

Arthur and Lydia bought a house at 1400 Birch Street in Scranton, very near the Lake Scranton resevoir, where they lived until retirement. The 1936 family reunion was also held here.

He worked many years for the Delaware-Hudson Railroad and retired as a locomotive engineer.

Arthur and Lydia retired to West Palm Beach, Florida in the early 1950s, and lived at 5911 Garden Avenue. Lydia did some substitute teaching and then taught full-time for a few years after they moved there.

Arthur died 28 January 1970, in West Palm Beach, Florida, and is buried in Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore, Pennsylvania.

Lydia moved to California in the early 1980's to live near her son John after Arthur died. She is buried with Arthur in Dunmore Cemetery.
