In the 1860 census, Wayne County, Dyberry Township, he may have been living in the home of Wm. Kimble, but is probably listed as "Rachael", female, age 9 and born in Wales. There is no other Richard Mathews in the township and not with his parents.

In 1870 he lived at home in Spring Brook Township, then Luzerne County.

In 1880 he lived in Spring Brook, also sister-in-law Sarah J. aged 18 born in Wales was living with the family.

In 1900 Richard lived in Spring Brook Township, Lackawanna County but gives birth year as 1853, age 47, farmer.

His birth date from family bible page is probably wrong, must be 1852 as he was born in Pennsylvania and the family left Wales in September of 1851, before he was born.

Married to Leah Francis, who was born about 1857.

He died before 1928.
