Canoeing, Loafing & Drinking In the Great North Woods

Last fall, my friends and I spent a week in the north woods, as has been our habit for the last couple decades (yes... we're old). We fish (actually they fish, I myself am too lazy to fish), explore, discuss philosophy, relax and perhaps have a drink or two.

I suspect the reason I love it so much is that we're doing everything our moms told us not to do, usually all at once: drinking, smoking, swearing, playing with fire, playing with knives and axes, getting really dirty, eating candy before dinner, staying out in the rain, telling dirty jokes, etc., etc., etc.

Anyway in September of '97 we camped on the Brightsand River in Ontario, Canada. It was a great trip. We saw a bald eagle, a beaver, and a family of wolves right from camp. (And no bear in camp like last year!) The weather was perfect, the fishing was good, the company was excellent, and supplies were ample. Life is good.
