World Sheet #5

TWO POEMS

1. Pretty Constant

  The maze is sensible
An entire upper floor where
Dark and frazil birds
Drown in milk.

Charles D. carves
His bloody bleating goat
While the swirl of Asian women
Drowned in milk.

Drowned in company
Wings like linen
Stones in the night apron, coming home

Drowned in the manifold stream
The nervous system of a crane
Drown in milk.

2. Duty’s Abandonment (A Constellation)
to Theresa, once again

silver spurs
of her hair jingle

(liquidy
psalm)

for caissons of brushes
that swoop to bruise

a cotillion
of blushes

whose escorts and guardians
impale the birds

(those bitter
Sussex girls!)

constructing a cane break
of twittering stars

in darkness’ abrogation
she shines. She shines.
