There is a procedure for removing the RPC worm from your PC's that does not require a format of your hard drive and reloading your system.
Symantec had a fix for the RPC worm, less than a day after the worm came out. This link, http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html, will take you to the site where the fix tool can be downloaded. It is small enough to fit on a single floppy.

gives the instructions on how to use the tool and update your system to prevent the worm from re-infecting your system. Symantec has also updated their virus definitions to include the signature of this worm. If you are using Syumantec Anti-Virus, download the new signature file as well, after the worm has been removed from your system.
